Rainbow Go!, By Professor Puzzle - REVIEW

Nature/ Type:            Trivia game

Rating:                       ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:   8 year-old ++

Who would love this: Trivia/ pub quiz lovers

 “Rainbow Go!” from Professor Puzzle is for everyone - those who are clueless and hopelessly horrible in Trivia (like myself), the amateurs, or the TRUE trivia kings and queens! Thank you Jedko Games for providing a copy!

Why I love ❤️ this game:

(1) 7 Clues & 1 Answers - A Competitive Trivia Game!

I enjoy watching TV quiz show (and being a “judge” on my comfy couch). Rainbow Go! brings the familiar quiz show to our living room, where we get to test out our random facts knowledge as a family (without the “public pressure”). The box includes 149 double-sided question cards; each card has one answer and 7 clues. Player takes turn to be the host, picks a card, and reads out the clues one at a time. Each of the card features 7 clues and an answer, starting from Clue 1 (red) to Clue 7 (violet). Players / teams can either guess the answer after a clue is read, or wait for more clues before answering. The catch? The fewer clues you use, the more points you score! However, if your answer is incorrect, you are out for the current card (unless you use the “Go Again!” power). Compete over 10 rounds, and battle out to be winner with the most score. I love that this game involves a bit of strategy, risk-taking, and decision-making. The first few clues are always pretty vague and broad, and the later clues will help narrow down the possibilities. For example, “Chess” card starts with general clues like “Game”, “Two Players, before slowly revealing the more specific hints such as “64 Squares”, “Queen Gambit”, “Checkmate”.

(2) 298 Questions Covering WIDE Range Of Topics

I love that the 298 questions cover a wide range of topics, from pop-culture, history, famous scientists, fictional characters, food and more! There are easy challenges like “Rudolph”, “Taxi”, “Panda”, “Cheese”; and there are also the difficult and more obscure ones like “Alexander The Great”, “Deja Vu”, and the 1941 movie “Citizen Kane”. There is sure to be something that you can answer!

(3) Colourful Rainbow Theme

I love the rainbow-theme and colourful components! Each player gets a “Rainbow Mat” score board to keep track of your points. The question cards are in the spectrum of 7 colours, and even the game box is in the shape of rainbow!

All You Can Eat, By Professor Puzzle - REVIEW

Nature/ Type:             Card Game

Rating:                       ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:   12 year-old ++ (But my 7 and 4 year-old love this game too!)

Who would love this: Strategy gamers & food lovers!

Sushi Go, Go Nuts for Donuts, Picky Eaters - it’s no secret I’m a HUGE fan of food-theme games. Nothing tastes more delicious than claiming victory in a game of mouthing-watering cuisines and calculative planning. Allow me to introduce our newfound favourite - “All You Can Eat” from Professor Puzzle (Thank you Jedko Games for another awesome recommendation!)

Why I love ❤️ this game:

(1) Strategy Game - Collect Good Cuisine Cards & Avoid Bad Clumsy Waiters!

To win this game, players race to collect the “good” cuisine cards, plan your way with combo cards, tread carefully with “risky” chilli cards, and avoid clumsy waiter cards. Each player takes turn to be the “server” who strategically creates columns of cards (some face-up, some face-down). Next, starting with the player to the server’s left, each player selects a column of their choice and takes it into their hands. Now, watch all the cards “unfold” and see how the selection affects the outcome of the feast! It’s amazing to watch how each player makes their choices: some play it safe, some take a risk, some have obvious “trust” issues 😂, some just love it random. I love the competitiveness, unpredictability, and a cheeky element of bluffing.

(2) Wide Variety Of Cards To Spice Up The Game

I love the wide variety of cards included that really “spice” up the game. My 7-year-old (a risk-taker in nature) loves the chilli cards - 5 points would be deducted if a player collected 4 chilli cards, BUT you get to earn a whopping 10 points if you manage to collect 5 of them! Everyone loves dessert cards (who doesn’t love a sweet extra point?), and the player who collects the biggest set of cuisine cards wins one of 4 matching trophies of extra 3 points.

(3) 4 Types Of Cuisine - Culturally Diverse

The game features 4 types of cuisines: Mexican, Mediterranean, East Asia, and South Asia. We LOVE foods from around the world and the diversity displayed on the cards: Churro, Egg Tarts, Nachos, Ramen, Pizza, Dumplings, and more!

(4) Compact Game - Family-Friendly & Travel Easy

I love that the cards and instructions are compactly packed within a small and travel-friendly box. This is a great family game - it’s recommended for older kids from 12 year-old ++, but trust me, younger kids “get” the game and enjoy it too. This is a delightfully yummy game!

Escape From The Aquarium, By Professor Puzzle - REVIEW

Nature/ Type:           Escape Room for kids

Rating:                      ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:   8-12 year-old

Who would love this: Kids that enjoy logical puzzles, mystery-solving, mathematics.

I LOVE Escape Room! I love that sense of achievement of clues-hunting, piecing jigsaws together, and deciphering the unknowns. I’m so glad that Professor Puzzle created a kid-version of that. Thank you Jedko Games for providing this “Escape From The Aquarium”!

Why I love ❤️ this game:

(1) 11 Exciting Puzzles To Solve

The set contains 11 puzzles hidden within 4 aquarium-theme envelopes (“The Coral Zone”, “The Abyss”, “The Ice Zone”, “The Ocean Tunnel”). Our mission: to solve the 11 puzzles, uncover sets of 3 unique numbers, scratch off the relevant portions from the “Answers Booklet”, identify the secret ingredients, and break a nasty spell using a mysterious potion. Like a real Escape Room, the clues can come in all shapes and forms, and are “jumbled up”and scattered around different places. Players need to connect the dots and make sense of the clues with some serious analysing. For example, in one puzzle, we were asked to identify and “shade off” all exact sea creatures that we can find in the aquarium (ie from all the bits and pieces in the 4 envelopes) to uncover the 3 numbers. My personal favourite was the puzzle where we need to decipher a secret message by first “translating” the symbols into English letters, re-assemble a message, and look for the number hints in a separate folder.

(2) Logic, Maths, Observational Challenges

I love that the puzzles cover a range of logic, mathematics, and observational skills. For example, in one puzzle, players need to add up two numbers at a time to form a pyramid of numbers; in another puzzle, players need to follow a series of directions and navigate around a map to uncover the numeral clues. And in another puzzle, we were asked to total-up the sum of tickets and souvenir purchases.

(3) A First Taste Of "Escape Room" Adventure

I love the interesting features included in the set; the “Puzzle Wheel” helps to “break the code” and provides a final key number for each puzzle. There is an instruction booklet and a separate guide for grown-up. I also really love the scratch-able “hint & solutions booklet” and “Answer Booklet”. This set provides an engaging and awesome way for our budding puzzler to have a first taste of the thrilling adventure of Escape Room!

Succulents, By Professor Puzzle - REVIEW

Nature/ Type:           Logic puzzle

Rating:                      ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:   12 year-old ++

Who would love this: Older kids and adults who enjoy quiet puzzle-solving moment

There is something intriguing about “Succulents” from Professor Puzzle - it has the enchanting effect of slowing down time, calming the mind, and allowing us to appreciate the serenity of nature in our own quiet room. Thank you Jedko Games, this is a beautiful puzzle.

Why I love ❤️ it:

(1) A Game Of Patience & Mindfulness

Succulents is different from many other logical puzzles I had tested in the past. Included within are 45 triangular pieces, 50 challenge cards, and instructions. Each of the puzzle pieces features 3 small parts of 3 separate succulent plants (in red, green, blue, or purple), positioned at 3 corners of a triangle. All the pieces are marked with a number at the reverse side, from 1 to 45. To start, select a challenge card, lay out the starting pieces shown on the puzzle card (using the number references as a guide). Now, rotate the orientation of the starting pieces until the corners of the touching triangles match with each other (eg a corner with red succulent to match with another corner with succulent plant of the same red colour). Now, work out the missing pieces using logic to assemble a stunning succulent scene. The solution is provided on the other side of each challenge card. It’s a game of patience, mindfulness, and really - it’s not as simple as it looks!

(2) Aesthetically Pleasing Artwork

Succulents is probably one of the most aesthetically pleasing logical puzzles I have ever seen! When 6 triangular pieces match and touch their pointed corners at a tip, it will form a complete symmetrical flower with delightful beauty. The real charm comes from the thrill of suspense - we often do not know how exactly the final scene looks like until we fully complete a challenge. It’s a calming, therapeutic exercise that takes time; and the joy of seeing a gorgeous succulent pattern comes into shape is simply amazing! This is a beautiful game for a plant and nature lover who enjoys peacefulness in life and a moment to unwind.

(3) Quality Wooden Material

I love that the puzzle pieces are made of quality wooden material for durability and thickness. The pieces are bright, vibrant and lovely in so many ways. It’s hard not to fall in love with this charming puzzle set.

Metro X, by Gamewright - REVIEW

Nature/ Type:           Flip-and-write game

Rating:                      ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:   8 year-old ++

Who would love this: Anyone (older kids/ adults) who enjoys strategy games

 “Flip-and-write game” has just become one of our favourites game genres, and we are so glad to have discovered another fantastic game to add to this category: “Metro X” by Gamewright, kindly gifted by Jedko Games

Why I love ❤️ this game:

(1) A Super Fun Flip-And-Write Game Full Of Tactical Moves

This game is simple to learn, but hard to master. Each player gets a dry-erase board that shows a multi-colour map of complex subway lines. Shuffle the 15 transit cards, reveal the top card one at a time. All players simultaneously pick a route on the board with an empty Train Car Window, fill it in with the indicated number or “X” (depending on the types of transit card being revealed), and mark-off a number of stations equal to the number on the card, or stops when you reach a box that is already crossed off. The goal is to cross off as many stations as possible (penalty applies depending on the number of stations being left empty). The routes intersect and cross over each other, and that’s when “Skip” cards come in handy by allowing us to skip over previously crossed off stations along a route. The first player to complete a given route scores the most points; everyone who subsequently completes the same line earn a lower value.

(2) Variety of Transit Cards To Spice Up The Gameplay

I love that there are a few variety of transit cards to give the game some interesting twists. Apart from the standard “Number” and “Skip” cards, there is also a “Free” card that can be used to mark off any empty station on the board. Transfer cards allow us to earn a score equals to 2X of the number of lines that intersect with the first empty station of a selected route. My personal favourite is the “Re-Shuffle 6” card which really spice up the game by allowing us to reshuffle the whole deck (including cards from the discard pile) and restart the flipping process again.

(3) Two Different Maps On The Wipeable / Reusable Double-Sided Game Board

I love that there are two different maps on each board (Metro City or Tube Town) - which adds to the variety and replay-ability. The artwork is clean, and I love that the set also includes 6 dry-erase markers (with a little eraser on the lid of each pen). This game can be played by up to 6 players, and the rule book also includes a “Solo Variant” section.

Sushi Go, By Gamewright - REVIEW

Nature/ Type:           Card game with Sushi theme

Rating:                      ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:   8 year-old ++

Who would love this: Card games/ board games/ Sushi lovers, especially someone who enjoys strategy games with "card-drafting" mechanism

I haven’t met anyone who doesn’t like Sushi Go from Gamewright before - it’s easy to pick up, engaging and interactive, and super cute. Thank you Jedko Games - this is extremely awesome!

Why I love ❤️ this game:

(1) Fun "Card-Drafting" Mechanism With Engaging Rules

Sushi Go is the type of game where every single move and action by a player would potentially change the entire dynamics of the game. The game is played over 3 rounds. In each round, players are dealt out a predetermined number of cards; everyone simultaneously select a card and reveal it, and pass the remaining cards in their hands to the player next to them. Each card worths a different point when they are played correctly according to the conditions; for example, you need to gather a pair of Tempura cards in order to score 5 points, and 3 sashimi cards together will earn you 10 points. At the end of the 3rd round, the player with the most points is the winner. I love the “card-drafting” mechanism - the anticipation and how we need to reformulate new strategy each time when we receive a new set of cards on hand, and that strategic fun of monitoring and keeping track of what other players are doing at the same time!

(2) Unique Cards With Special Points & Powers For Strategy Play

I love that there are sufficient unique cards with special rules to give the game a twist, and makes it a tactical “game of dilemmas”. Every “good” choices we made comes together with giving up something valuable to another player. Should we focus on accumulating Sushi Rolls to gain 6 points, or should we keep eyeing on the Wasabi + Nigiri combo which have a potential of tripling the point up to 9? And don’t forget to collect sufficient pudding cards or you might end up losing up to 6 points at the end of the game. My personal favourite is the “Chopsticks” card - it doesn’t worth a point by itself, but gives us the power of keeping 2 best cards during a turn.

(3) Super Adorable Artwork With Cute Smiley Faces

The artwork is SO ADORABLE and heart-capturing! Seriously, how can anyone resists that cute smiley faces on the baby dumplings and salmon nigiri! This is a delicious game that the kids and adults really love at our home!

(4) Nice Sturdy Tin Container

I also love the sturdy tin container -cute, organised, and perfect for travel!

Nacho Stack! , By Professor Puzzle - REVIEW

Nature/ Type:          Family board game

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  8 year-old ++

Who would love this: Nacho lovers / strategy game lovers/ board game lovers - ANYONE!

This game is a LOVE at first sight - I just can’t resist a game with crunchy tortilla chips and burst of flavoursome toppings. Nacho Stack! by Professor Puzzle is a delicious stacking game that instantly appeals to our family - thank you Jedko Games, this is scrumptiously awesome!

Why I love ❤️ this game:

(1) A Game With Deliciously-Clever Nacho Theme

I LOVE the clever Nacho theme! In the set, you will find 59 nacho cards, 9 jalapeño tokens, a game die, and instruction. To sum up the game in one line: you balance the nacho chips on the rim of the box (the “bowl”) and you remove them one-by-one with the steadiest of hands. Most of the nachos are saucy nachos - you will see a “colour code”, matching symbol and a score (ranges from 3 to 5) at one of the corners of the triangular chips. There are nachos dipped in green guacamole (yum!), brownish refried beans, bright red salsa, orange melted cheese, white sour cream. There are also nachos with a big spicy jalapeño symbol in the middle, and 9 jalapeño tokens to go with them. At the reverse side of each chips, you will see the “smashed-up” design and a score of either 0 or -1.

(2) A Bit Of Jenga, Skills & Luck - Nacho Stack! Has Them All

The game is divided into two parts. First stage involves players taking turn to balance a chip on the rim of the “bowl” with the saucy side facing outwards. One condition: no chip with the same sauce is allowed to overlap or touch each other. Second stage involves players rolling a dice, and do a “Jenga” by removing the right saucy chip without crashing the entire stack. Each chip collected would earn the player the stated point, but if any nachos fall off the bowl, they are smashed and points might be deducted (depending on whether it’s a “0” or “-1” card). I love the good mixture of luck and skills in this game; you need good hand-eye coordination, a good judgment to pick the best located chips with most valuable points, and a good sense to use the weight of jalapeño token to steady the stack.

(3) Awesome Quality Components + Travel-Friendly Game

We are impressed with the Nacho chips; not only because they look delicious, these chips have the perfect thickness and sturdiness to use in a balance game. We also love how compact and light weight the game is.

Roll-A-Saurus, By Professor Puzzle - REVIEW

Nature/ Type:          Board game for young kids

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  4 year-old ++

Who would love this: Kids that love dinosaurs/ matching games/ competitive board games

I love it whenever I discover a new game that both of my kids (4 and 7 year-old) can play together despite the age gap. Jedko Games sent us a sample of “Roll-A-Saurus” by Professor Puzzle recently- this is a fun little game that really brings out the competitiveness in us, and would definitely delight any dinosaur enthusiasts of all ages!

Why I love ❤️ this game:

(1) Board Game With Dinosaur-Matching Fun

Included in this colourful and playful box are 45 Dinosaur Pieces, 4 Scene Cards, 2 Game Dice, T-Rex Trophy (with a stand), Fact Poster, and Instructions. The Dinosaur Pieces are made up of 5 different dinosaur species (marked with number 1 to 5), in 3 colours (orange, green, purple) and 3 patterns (spotty, stripy, plain). The aim of the game is pretty simple; Roll the two dice - one dice would show the colour and the other the pattern. Now, grab a dinosaur that matches the colour and pattern descriptions as shown on the dice. The game will repeat many rounds until a player completes a collection of 5 species of dinosaurs, who will be awarded the golden T-Rex trophy! The game is jam-packed with excitement, fast and furious reaction time, and non-stop laughter. This is a fantastic way for young kids to learn about colour, number, and pattern recognition.

(2) Matching Game Of Different Variants - Just Be Creative!

The instructions suggested an “easier mode” for young kids where only one dice is used, and “second chance” is given when a player grabs a wrong dinosaur. Our two kids have also come up with many other play variants. They sort the dinosaurs by species/ colours/ patterns; they race amongst themselves, snatching up as many dinosaurs as they can find that match the dice each round. They named the dinosaurs, created a prehistoric story scene, and queued them up in rows. It’s amazing to see how creative the kids can get when imaginations lead the way!

(3) Fact Poster To Learn About Dinosaurs!

The poster gives us some fun facts about each dinosaur; Do you know that some T-Rex were longer than a school bus? Triceratops were herbivores with 3 horns, brachiosauruses were about twice as tall as a giraffe, stegosauruses’ brains were as tiny as limes, and (probably the most “shocking” of all), pterodactyls weren’t actually dinosaurs!

Go Nuts for Donuts, By Gamewright - REVIEW

Nature/ Type:          Strategy card game with donuts!

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age: 8 year-old ++

Who would love this: Anyone who loves donuts/ delicious treats/ strategy games

 A strategy card game with delicious donuts that brings sunshine to the room - this game is irresistible! “Go Nuts for Donuts” from Gamewright has been around in the market for a while, and it has always been THE game that I really wanted to test out. Thank you Jedko Games for providing a copy.

Why I love ❤️ this game:

(1) A Strategy Game With FUN Moves

I’m a BIG FAN of strategy games - anything involves crafty planning and calculative moves. In this game, players need to figure out which donut they want while also trying to read your opponents’ minds. Each round, a number of donut cards are set out face-up, each beneath a numbered marker. Players simultaneously reveal which donut they have secretly picked; if two persons selected the same donut then neither players get it. If you were the only one who pick a specific donut, then you get to keep that sweet treat. Each card would either reward you with a certain points, or comes with special actions (eg getting an extra card from deck, or from discard pile etc). The player with the most points when the deck runs out, wins the crown. We love those funny “mind games”, quiet plans to defeat another’s victory scheme, outsmarting each other whilst trying to keep our eyes on the prize (or donut). Should we aim for the larger goal by collecting “Donut Holes” (15 points if you collected 5 in a set), or should we go straight to a single “powdered” donut and claim a decent 3 points? Should we go for “Strawberry Glaze” to discard a player’s card, or should we go “Sprinkled” and throw our worst card at the biggest rival? This game is frustrating, fun, and (thankfully) non-fattening!

(2) Recommended Family & Party Game

I love that the game can be played by 2 to 6 players - which make this a great family game and party game. This is a great filler game that is easy to teach, fast to learn, quick to complete. Amazingly, sometimes, the player with the least strategy might turn out to be the ultimate winner (e.g. my 4 year-old who just repeatedly selects the best-looking treats).

(3) Card Game With SUPER Cute Artworks

I love the adorable artworks: donuts with cute faces, delightful graphics, lovely bright colours, tantalising pastries. Irresistible - 100%!
