Zombie Kidz Evolution, By Scorpion Masque - REVIEW

Nature / Type:            Board game / Card game

Rating:                        ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:    7 year-old ++

Who would love this:  Young board game lovers who enjoy cooperative games

Zombie Kidz Evolution from Scorpion Masque is the first legacy-style game we’ve ever seen made just for kids! As you team up to defend your school from goofy zombies, the game grows with you—unlocking wild new missions, secret surprises, and awesome upgrades. Big thanks to Let's Play Games for sending us this epic adventure in a box!

Why I love ❤️ it:

(1) Cooperative Game - Defend Your School From Zombie Invasion!

Kids work cooperatively defending your school from a chaotic zombie invasion! Start in the middle of the board, place zombies at the school’s doors, and keep a few in the “zombie reserve.” On your turn, roll the die to see where a new zombie sneaks in—unless you roll a blank (phew, no zombie this time!). Move to a new room or stay put, then blast away up to two zombies in your room and send them back to the reserve. But watch out—if three zombies pile into one room, it’s blocked! Team up with a buddy at an entryway, high-five (the best part!), and lock it down. Lock all four doors before the zombies run out, and you win!

(2) Stickers + Secret Envelopes

The BEST part? After each game, you get to stick a brain sticker on your progress chart in the rulebook. When you reach a special spot - open a secret envelope and discover something new. The game evolves as you play, adding fresh twists that make it more exciting each time. Soon, your heroes gain awesome powers, and even the zombies level up into Super Zombies! You also get to earn trophy sticker when you completed a special mission!

(3) Double-Sided Game Board & Amazing Components

We love the components! The game comes with a double-sided board (the two-player side has secret shortcuts between rooms). The characters, cards, and manual all look great, and the real highlight? Those mystery envelopes! Kids go wild peeling them open to reveal the next big surprise. It’s like getting a present every time you level up!

(4) Bright, Bold, Adorable Artwork

The art is bright, bold, and totally adorable! Each kid hero wields silly, kid-friendly zombie-fighting gear. It’s a clever twist on the classic zombie movie vibe, but made fun (not scary!) and perfect for a schoolyard setting. The standee characters are full of personality, with a nice mix of styles. It’s spooky-ish... but in the most giggle-worthy way!

ORBITO, By FlexiQ Games - REVIEW

Nature / Type:             Tabletop game / Board game

Rating:                        ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:     7 year-old ++

Who would love this:  Anyone who enjoys Connect Four (or any classic games) with a twist

ORBITO from FlexiQ Games takes the classic Connect-4 to electrifying heights. The marbles don’t just drop into place—they orbit across the board, forcing you to think ahead, outsmart your opponent, and set traps in ways you’ve never imagined. Thank you VR Distribution for this amazing game!

Why I love ❤️ it:

(1) Connect-Four Played On A Patented, Rotatable Board

8 black marbles. 8 white marbles. Two players. Four in a row. With a single press of a button, the battle of Orbito begins! Sleek and mesmerizing marbles take center stage, each one gliding around a patented board that’s anything but ordinary. The game board is split into two zones: the rotating outer edge, where 12 marbles shift in orbit, and the 4 dynamic squares at the core, constantly shifting and throwing your plans into disarray. Your goal? To line up four of your marbles in a row—whether vertically, horizontally, or diagonally—before your opponent does. Every time you press the Orbito button, the marbles shift one position on their orbit, turning the game into an ever-evolving puzzle of strategy, anticipation, and chaos.

(2) Sabotage Your Opponent's Strategy - Shift A Marble To An Adjacent Spot

It’s not just the shifting game board that keeps you on edge. On each turn, you have the power to sabotage your opponent’s strategy by shifting one of their marbles to an adjacent spot. Now, you’re not just thinking about where to place your own marbles; you’re also plotting where to disrupt your opponent’s next move!

(3) Push Button FIVE Times When It's A Stalemate

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, Orbito throws in one more twist: if the board is full and it’s a stalemate, one player is granted the power to PUSH THE BUTTON FIVE TIMES, triggering a frenzy where every shift of the marbles could be the game-changer. The first player to line up four of their balls wins, but if it’s still anyone’s game after those five dramatic presses, it’s a draw! We love the element of thrilling unpredictability and the wild ride of suspense!

(4) Top-Notch & Sturdy Components

The components are top-notch. The sturdy plastic board is solid, while the marbles are beautifully crafted, weighty and smooth. Setting up the game is a breeze: simply lift the central knob, give it a slight twist to lock it in place, and you’re ready to dive into the action!

Ah-Harr!, by Wildcard Games - REVIEW

Nature / Type:             Memory Game

Rating:                        ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:    7 year-old ++

Who would love this:  Kids & adults that enjoy memory games/ pirate-themed

I’ve always found memory games challenging, so I was pleasantly surprised to discover that both of my kids genuinely enjoy this genre. Recently, we tried out ‘Ah-Harr!’ by Wildcard Games, and I must say, don’t be fooled by its charming packaging—it’s more difficult than it appears! Thanks Divisible by Zero for providing a copy.

Why I love ❤️ it:

(1) Match 3 Cards In 3 Different Ways

This memory game offers a bold and challenging twist. It includes 64 Treasure Island cards and a black pirate captain’s eye patch adorned with Jolly Roger skull. Unlike traditional memory games that require matching pairs of identical items or images, ‘Ah-Harr!’ allows players to match cards in 3 different ways: by color, number, or object. To play, you lay out 16 cards face down in a 4x4 grid. Players take turns flipping over cards to find sets of three that share a common characteristic. For example, you can match 3 cards that are all yellow, or 3 cards that each features a total of three objects. The player who collects the most Jewels from their cards wins the game. We love this fresh take on a classic memory game!

(2) Cards With Special Powers - Spicing-Up The Game!

To add on the excitement, some cards come with special powers. If you collect a set that includes one or more Parrot cards, you can use them to steal Jewels of the same color from another player. Collecting a Skull & Crossbones card grants you the cool Eye Patch, elevating you to the status of Pirate Captain and protecting your cards from being swiped by the mischievous Parrots. Additionally, if you flip over a ‘Map’ as your third card, you earn the chance to turn over an extra card. These special abilities truly enhance the gameplay!

(3) 5 Optional Alternative Ways To Play

The rules include 5 optional alternative ways to play, allowing you to modify the game for either a more intense or easier experience. For instance, you can choose to award an extra point for each non-Jewel card, grant the Captain additional Jewel cards, or adjust the difficulty by changing the size of the grid layout.

(4) Pirate-Themed Artwork & Eye Patch For A Fun Touch

I love the charming pirate-themed artwork, and the eye patch adds a fun touch that always brings a smile. This compact game is travel-friendly, making it perfect for on-the-go play.

The Poetry Play Kit, By Kaddo - REVIEW

Nature / Type:             Learning kit

Rating:                        ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:    6-9 year-old

Who would love this: Kids / parents that enjoy poems and rhymes

It’s rare to find an educational kit that dedicates to the magic of poetry. Discover “The Poetry Play Kit” from Kaddo (an imprint of Quarto). Designed by Joseph Coelho, the UK Children’s Poet Laureate 2022-2024, this kit is perfect for inspiring creativity and igniting your imagination!

Why I love ❤️ it:

(1) 500 Word Cards + 12 Activity Cards

This kit includes 500 word cards, 12 double-sided activity cards, 28 rhyming dominoes, a poetry spinner, and a booklet filled with tips and inspiration—everything you need to hone your skills as an aspiring poet! The mini word tiles offer a rich resource for sparking creativity. Each card is color-coded: green for nouns, red for verbs, pink for emotions, and more. The activity cards present engaging prompts for crafting poems with the word cards. You can select a noun card and write a poem from the object’s perspective, create a haiku with the 5-7-5 syllable structure, or compose a one-word poem. You can also explore emotion poems using pink cards, write an acrostic where the first letter of each line spells out a word, or create a picture poem using related words.

(2) 28 Rhyming Dominoes - Discover Rhythmic Patterns!

The 28 rhyming dominoes are excellent tools for exploring the rhythmic patterns. Simply choose a domino, brainstorm some rhyming words, and craft a poem (our 5-year-old wrote about “a brown silly dog, sat on a log, and met a green frog). We also enjoyed creating a rhyme snake and played a memory pairing game with these domino tiles.

(3) Smart Spinner - Learn About MORERAPS

I love the smart spinner—it features all the letters from A to Z, along with a MORERAPS guide to linguistic techniques that can enhance your poetry! We explored Metaphor (“the moon is a mysterious guest”), played with Alliteration (our kids created their first tongue twister: “The quiet queen quit quarrelling to quickly queued-up for a quest”), and used Personification to enrich our creative works.

(4) Booklet For More Inspiring Examples

The included booklet offers a wealth of inspiring examples, from mood-expressing riddles to action-packed poems, as well as playful nonsense rhymes. It also features a supportive guide for parents and teachers, along with useful tips for using these elements to enhance your creative journey!

It was a fun project that provided a rewarding bonding experience with my child, offering an stress-free yet satisfying build.

I love the detailed BIT Build Guide which features photographs for each step. Building it with my 8-year-old was a BLAST.  The 20-minutes building project is rewarding and engaging for young kids just starting their journey into electronics, striking the perfect balance between fun and challenge without being frustrating.

(2) Classic Video Games That Transport Us Back To The Good Old Times

Once you complete the build, the console boots up and loads a menu of games. By default, it includes 3 classic 80s titles: Snake, Pong, Tetris. The kids LOVE them! Additionally, several more games can be unlocked with add-on wacky robots—another exciting building project I can’t wait to share with you soon! For older kids who enjoy coding challenges, there’s a QR code that links to a series of videos guiding them on how to create games through CircuitBlocks. I appreciate how the set offers both hardware and software educational experiences!

(3) Excellent Quality & Sturdy Finished Product

The quality of the components is excellent, and the finished product feels sturdy. I enjoy the tactile feel of the buttons and their satisfying ‘click’ sound. The kit also includes a lanyard for attaching to the console, a screwdriver, and even a comic book! Plus, there are additional pieces to build a three-tier plastic shelf to hold the console and its add-ons.

Lucky Jack, By Laboludic - REVIEW

Nature / Type:             Card game

Rating:                        ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:    7 year-old ++

Who would love this:  Anyone who enjoys quick, family card games with good mix of luck and strategy

Laboludic is renowned for their distinctive and whimsical artistic style. Introducing our family’s latest LOVE: - “Lucky Jack” - kindly gifted by the fantastic Divisible by Zero

Why I love ❤️ this game:

(1) Card Game With Good Mix Of Chance + Skill

I love a card game that seamlessly combines chance and skill. This set includes 84 cards - 12 of each 7 symbols. The objective of the game is to be the first to discard your cards by laying down 3 (or 4) cards that each display the same symbol. Each symbol has a different point value, as detailed in the hierarchy table. First, deal 7 cards to each player. Turn over the top-card from the stock (which represents the first discard). Each player now takes turn to discard a card from their hands. A player can discard a card with the same symbol (or a higher-value symbol) than that shown on the top discard. A player can also discard a lower-value card and takes 2 cards from the stock to add to their hands. Alternatively a player can choose not to discard any cards and instead draw an additional card. They can then either immediately discard this new card—risking it being claimed by another player—or add it to their hand. The turn ends when a player hits a “jackpot” with 3 (or 4) remaining cards showing a set of identical symbols.

(2) A Risk-Taking Game

The game is played over 3 to 5 rounds (with accumulated score). I love the subtle hint of strategy and risk-taking elements; Will you go for the highest value symbol and risk someone else ending the game before you complete your set? Should you finish with 3 cards, or wait and gamble for a higher-scoring set of four? The choice is yours, and the tension is high!

(3) Casino Vibe With Classic Slot Machine Symbols

I love the thrilling casino vibe of the design, featuring classic slot machine symbols like bells, cherries, and sevens. It captures that exhilarating feel but reimagined as a kid-friendly card game, bursting with Laboludic’s signature vibrancy and fun!

(4) Compact & Lightweight - A Travel-Friendly Game

This game is compact and lightweight, making it a perfect travel companion. The instructions are available in multiple languages—German, French, English, Spanish, and Dutch. With no reading required, it’s truly a universal game that everyone can enjoy.

First, gently push out the laser cut wooden pieces (there are a total of 34 individuals pieces) - all can be easily popped out and removed without using any tool. The illustrated guide provides a clear step-by-step instructions on how to assemble the motorcycle. It was really fun to see how these plywood pieces came together to form a dashing bike. Simply insert and connect the pieces together in sequence - from the main frame, wheels, handlebars, footrest, saddled seat, fender, and more. The entire process took us around 30 minutes to complete - it’s a delightful project, not too difficult to execute, stress-free, yet satisfying at the same time!

(2) Stylish & Simple DIY Project

Like the other Funyards wooden puzzle sets - this motorcycle design includes a variety of details that make it a stylish choice for a simple, quick project. The front fork is flexible and steerable, allowing it to move from side to side, while the wheels roll smoothly. All components are securely assembled. This motorcycle model is a compact, elegant decorative item for any home.

(3) Well-Designed Kit With Precision

The puzzle pieces are laser-cut with precision, featuring well-designed and accurately-sized gaps and links that allow for effortless assembly. Golden Creek, By Laboludic - REVIEW

Nature / Type:             Board game

Rating:                        ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:    7 year-old ++

Who would love this:  Board-gamers who enjoy games with pirate-themed/ secret "bidding" mechanism

Golden Creek is likely the most complex Laboludic game I’ve tested so far. It’s a game that demands crafty planning, quick intuition, and a knack for mind-reading (or guessing) your opponents’ moves. I’m impressed! Thank you, Divisible by Zero —we’re loving it!

Why I love ❤️ this game:

(1) Plunder The Most Treasure To Win In This Secret "Bidding" Game

This is a secret “bidding” game where players must keenly observe and anticipate each other’s moves. Each player takes on the role of a pirate and is given 6 Ship cards. During each round, a random treasure token—worth 1, 2, 3, or 8 points for a pair of half jewels—is placed on each of the 3 islands, alternating between face-up and face-down positions. Players secretly choose a card and reveal it simultaneously to decide whether to “plunder” or “attack” an island. If two or more players choose the same card, the effects cancel out, and none of those players receive any treasure. An “Attack” card trumps a “Plunder” card, but an “Attack” without a corresponding “Plunder” results in no treasure for the “Attack” player. The game continues until the treasure tokens are depleted. Player with the highest total wealth at the end is the winner.

(2) Exciting Twists - A Light-Hearted "Mind Game"

I love a twist to the traditional “bidding” mechanism! For instance, when two cards are “cancelled-out”, the players get a “compensation” - they get to advance their markers on the Character card, gaining special abilities for the next round. These abilities might include peeking at a face-down token, drawing an extra treasure token from the pile, or playing two Ship cards in one turn. Alternatively, players can choose not to use the power and instead earn bonus points at the end. The mixed face-up and face-down token placements introduce a constant element of surprise. This game presents a light-hearted “mind game” where players must decide whether to compete for the highest rewards or opt for seemingly less attractive options, all while considering their opponents’ potential strategies.

(3) Gender-Neutral / Cool Pirate Theme

I love the cool pirate theme. The gender-neutral artwork is super badass and eye-catching. This game really stands out and adds a unique and inclusive touch to the overall design.

3Up 3Down, By ok2win - REVIEW

Nature / Type:            Card game

Rating:                        ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:    7 year-old ++

Who would love this:  Kids/ adults that enjoy quick number games with a hint of strategy

 “3Up 3Down” from ok2win is that sort of game where you can sit back, relax, whilst satisfying that inner competitiveness for a fun match. It’s fast-paced, family-friendly, and can be enjoyed by all ages. Thank you Divisible by Zero for providing a copy!

Why I love ❤️ it:

(1) Card Game With Good Mix Of Luck + Strategy

We love card games with a good mix of luck and strategy. The set comes with 84 cards and an instruction sheet. To set up, shuffle the deck and deal 3 cards face-down to each player. Next, deal a further 6 cards, where the player will now select 3 to be placed face-up, and take the remaining 3 cards in hands. On a turn, each player will play a card which is either equal or in greater value than the topmost card (player can play more than a card of a same value). Player must always fill their hands to have at least 3 cards at all times. If you cannot beat the topmost number, you must pick up all the cards underneath it (the “discard pile”) and add them to your hands, unless you play a “Clear” card (which has the power to get rid of the entire discard pile and remove it from the game). When your hand is empty, you can begin to play on the 3 face-up cards, and lastly, the 3 face-down cards in front of you. Be the first to get rid of all cards to win!

(2) Sufficient "Clear" Cards To Avoid Too Many Frustrating Penalties

Just like UNO, no one loves the penalty of picking up the discard pile! But luckily, there are sufficient “Clear” cards around to avoid that nasty pickle. The discard pile can also be cleared away when a same number is played 3 times consecutively (whether by one player or more).

(3) "Suspense" Till The End

The “3 Up” and “3 Down” setting is the feature that really sets this game apart from most other card-shedding games. I love the suspense and “calculative” tactics involved that keep all players guessing (and peeking) till the end. I love the strategy behind selecting a good set of “Up” cards (cards with higher value, “clear” power, or repeated numbers are some great choices), mixing with the randomness of the “Down” cards for some final surprise.

(4) Travel-Friendly & Compact Game

The game is compact and travel-friendly. The cards are thick, and come in three bright and vivid colours. I love the basic and uncluttered design of the cards. This is a lovely family game!

The set includes 36 playing cards (25 instruments, 7 jokers, 4 action cards), 20 ensemble cards with music bands and its allocated points, 4 “silence” tokens, and 24 coordinating tokens. First, we place all 36 playing cards face-down in grid form. Each player selects an ensemble card. Player takes turn to flip over a playing card; if it’s an instrument card that matches the ensemble card, they continue to flip over another card until a mistake is made, OR until a player has found all the relevant instrument cards (and when that happens, the player can keep the card for final scoring!). The game ends when all players have collectively completed 10 ensemble cards. The player with the most points is the winner. This game is no easy feat and really pushes your memory skill to the max (imagine having to memorise the position of all 7 instrument cards in Septet band with no mistake!).There is also an easier play variant with just 24 cards if you want to start “easy”.

(2) Interesting Music Theme With Wide Variety Of Instruments / Bands

I LOVE the variety of instruments and music genres featured: from classic String Quartet (cello, viola, 2 x violins), playful Brass Quintet (tuba, 2X trumpet, trombone, horn), and iconic Raggae band (e-guitar, e-bass, trumpet, congo, drums). I love the “hint cards” that help us identify a music instrument and its “joker” group - eg piano in the “keyboard” group, oboe within the “woodwind” group.

(3) Joker Cards + Action Cards

Apart from the joker cards that can represent an instrument within the same “family”, there are also action cards for special advantage: “Spy” to take a peek of any face-down card, “Coordinates” to mark a card of interest, “Silence” to freeze a card, and “One More” for a second chance!

(4) Eco-Friendly + Made In Barcelona

This game is made of recycled cardboard and paper, packaged in a sturdy cardboard box. It is manufactured and designed in Barcelona, and conforms to international safety standards including EN71.

Wooden 3D Puzzle - Racing Car, By Funyards Australia - REVIEW

Nature / Type:             Wooden 3D puzzle

Rating:                        ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:    7 year-old ++

Who would love this:  Anyone who enjoys woodwork/ craft activities/ 3D puzzles

We love the build-it-yourself plywood puzzles from Funyards Australia - they are not difficult to execute, and always give us such satisfying sense of achievement. Today, let’s talk about “Wooden 3D Puzzle - Racing Car”.

Why I love ❤️ this set:

(1) Laser-Cut Plywood 3D Puzzle With 29 Pieces

The set comes with a single wooden sheet with removable laser-cut plywood pieces, and a one-page assembly instructions guide. First, gently push out the laser cut wooden pieces (there are a total of 29 individuals pieces) - all can be easily popped out and removed without the need of tool. The illustrated guide has clear step-by-step guide with each of the puzzle pieces labelled for easy reference. To build the race car, simply insert and join the pieces together by following the sequence and guide of the assembly instructions. Starting from the main body of the car and its cockpit, fix the front part and side doors, attach the wheels and rear wing, and finally, gives it a last touch by connecting the steering wheel and front wing. It’s a delightful  process that requires a reasonable measure of dexterity and concentration - it took our 8 year-old 15-minute to complete the build. It was a pleasant, stress-free activity, with no fancy gadgets or tools required.

(2) Cool Racing Car Design

I love the design of the puzzle structure. The racing car has sufficient details to make it interesting. Symmetrical on both sides with all pieces securely connected - it doesn’t take up much space, and makes such a gorgeous vehicle to be incorporated into imaginative play.

(3) Precisely Crafted With Good Connection

Like all of Funyards Australia timber sets - the puzzle pieces are laser-cut, precisely done with gaps and links for easy insertion/ connection between the pieces. No glue is needed for this project. The set includes a small piece of sand paper to smooth out the edges and wooden surfaces.

(4) Flat-Pack Packaging + Clearly Illustrated Instruction Guide

I love that the puzzle is flat-pack with minimal packaging. The instruction is clearly illustrated, all pieces are labeled on the guide and are easily identifiable. Our 8 year-old was able to build it independently and he thoroughly enjoyed the process. According to the information included, this product passed CE and ASTM test.
