Who would love this: Parents and any kids who are eager to learn how to read. 

We started using this Sight Words Level One from Colourful Learning Toy Store more than 2 weeks ago, taking one step and one word at a time. Suffice to say, I’m impressed. Sometimes, a simple and outcome-focused learning resource is all we need to see real result! 

Why I love ❤️ this learning material: 

(1) Worksheets and Flash Cards - The set comes with 10 worksheets/ sight word boards, 200 flash cards, a progress chart, and a marker pen. The level 1 set introduces kids to 100 most-frequently used sight words in the English language, grouped in 10 words each and printed on 10 individual boards. We started with “Card 1” which contains 10 easy-to-recognise words such as “I”, “the”, “a”, “and”, “to” and “it”. I love that they are printed in lower-case and universal (ie non-fancy) form, making it really child-friendly. The boy was super excited to spot many of the commonly-used words in our daily reading. We then moved on to “Card 2” after a week (which contains words such as “then”, “he”, “she” and “they” etc), and we were once again blown away by the immense fun of words-searching. The good-sized sheets and large-printed words are really awesome for kids, and I love how the words are organised in 10 cards of ten different colours, and in consecutive order of frequency. The boy sees learning new words as an interesting daily game with mummy. 

(2) Learn Through Games- I love the suggested learning games! The 200 flash cards (2 x 100 sight words) can be used in various versatile and interactive ways: we can play Bingo with them, or “match a pair” like a good old classic memory game, do a “beat the clock” or “spell me” challenge. Our ultimate favourite is the “make a sentence” game. We took turn to make a sentence revolving around a theme using the sight words: the stories range from “a day in school” to “adventure in dino land”. We have loads of exciting time giggling and laughing at our ridiculous storylines while learning the new words. 

(3) Wipeable / Reusable Writing Sheets - I love the wipeable worksheets for tracing and writing practice. 

(4) Organised Storage- I also love the sturdy storage box that can keep everything neat and organised.
