ANBOX cardboard Play Kitchen, by Creative Cubby Houses

Nature/ Type:          Innovative cardboard play kitchen

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  2 year-old ++

Who would love this: Kitchen imaginative play mini lovers!

“Wow! This is SO COOL!” - sums up my reaction when I first saw this Anbox cardboard Play Kitchen. I knew immediately this is something I MUST write and share about. THANK YOU Creative Cubby Houses for bringing this extraordinary Korean creation to Australia, and thank you Mark for providing one to us in exchange for honest review. We are super impressed!

Why I love ❤️ this toy:

(1) Easy set-up and different configurations- The Play Kitchen comes in a flat-pack of cardboards. They are huge, exciting, with clear instructions, and numbers labelling at the attachment parts for easy assembling. It took us around 10 minutes to set it up (without need of scissors or glue). Oh the joy of seeing a “real-size” kitchen unfolding before us! This kitchen can be converted into different configurations; We created a three-way enclosed kitchen with full roof, maximised the play area surface by changing it into an “open kitchen”, and lined the kitchen benches into a “L” shape for space-saving. It can also be flat-packed for storage.

(2) Interesting Features- The cardboard kitchen is lovingly decorated with delightful features: double-cupboard doors that can be opened outwardly, drop-door oven, single-door  cabinet which my kids call “the fridge”. The illustrations on the cardboard are too adorable: waving bear, inspiring motto of “Do More of What Makes You Happy”, pendant lights, memo board, range hood, framed painting of a giraffe etc. My personal favourite is the cutout windows. It was so funny seeing the boy handing out rolled sushi to the sister through the window like a chef serving a bossy customer 🤣. At the outer walls, there are animals images completes with names in alphabetical order. Seriously, can it be any cuter?

(3) Sturdy- I am amazed by how sturdy these cardboards are. The benches can withstand the weight of a few wooden play counters and many more accessories.

(4) Colouring Fun- The all-white cardboard play kitchen can be drawn on and coloured in.

(5) Environmental-Friendly Materials- The cardboard is made of recycled corrugated cardboard materials. I love that it encourages play in a sustainable and environmental-friendly way.

Thank you Creative Cubby Houses , this is too awesome!

Personalised Keepsake Chair, by Happy Little Keepsakes

Nature/ Type:          Personalised upholstery wooden chair for kids

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  Any / or probably around 2 year-old ++

Who would love this: Anyone who loves practical and last for a life-time handmade gifts

Someone once told me that the pandemic is like an unexpected storm; we may be in the same storm, but definitely different boats. Some got shipwrecked, some rowed in tears, some got inspired and came out stronger. When businesses got impacted during Covid, “Happy Little Keepsakes” was born out of passion, creativity, combined skills: the upholstery mastership of Grandpa Mario, the expertise of local embroideress, and a mission of a young family to continue the memory of a little keepsake chair.

Thank you Happy Little Keepsakes for gifting these lovingly-made chairs to my family and sharing such heart-moving story with me.

Why I love ❤️ these personalised keepsake chairs:

(1) Unique personalised upholstery chairs - I have seen wooden chair, plastic chair, bean bag chair, armchair. But a handmade upholstery wooden chair personalised with embroidered name specifically made for kids? That is a FIRST and where its uniqueness lies. Our kids fall in love with the chairs instantly; it’s a piece of personal furniture that they can proudly and “legitimately” claim ownership of. You can customise the colours (there are 10 selections, we opted for Earth Red and Grand Purple. They are gorgeous!), font style (block letters or calligraphy), leg finishing (stained or white paint), and personalised names / words. Each chair is special, one-of-a-kind, practical, and expected to last for a lifetime.

(2) Sturdy and good quality - These chairs are STURDY. I know they are because the daddy and myself have been sitting on these tiny chairs watching TV when the kids were in bed. And yes, the chairs are still standing well despite our lock-down weight-gain! 😜 They are incredibly comfy to sit, made with great craftsmanship and careful finishes.

(3) Handmade by Aussie small businesses- These chairs are 100% handmade by Australian small businesses; each of them was made with care, thought, and attention to detail, by genuine individuals who are proud of their crafts. When you buy from Happy Little Keepsakes , you are supporting hardworking real families behind the scene.

Kebo Magnetic Marble Run, by Toymagine

Nature/ Type:          Magnetic ball run with innovative LED balls

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  3 year-old ++

Who would love this: Magnetic tiles and ball run lovers!

When Toymagine recommended and gifted me the 96 pieces Kebo Magnetic Marble Run in exchange for honest review, I had my doubts; after all, “Kebo” hasn’t quite established its name yet in Australia, and I couldn’t find sufficient reviews out there to ascertain its quality. But my oh my, just when you thought you have seen enough “similar” marble run products, Kebo throws in unexpected surprises and makes me reevaluate what I thought I knew. Thank you Toymagine , this marble run set is FANTASTIC!

Why I love ❤️ this toy:

(1) Fantastic LED Balls - My boy calls this the “lightning set”! I have never seen a magnetic set with LED balls before, so imagine our thrills watching two red and green orbs rolling and travelling down the vibrancy of colours while glowing in sharp brightness, flashing their lights in exciting high-speed! I was told by Toymagine that the LED balls are included as part of a special deal struck by the amazing owner Neha with the manufacturer; so when you buy a Kebo set from Toymagine , you get two rare-to-find luminous balls (plus 6 “ordinary” balls) to elevate your ball run experience!

(2) Unique Mini Figures with Magnets - The set also includes two unique figures with magnets embedded at the soles of their feet. The figures can hence perform all sorts of impossible acrobatic stunts on the magnetic structures: standing upside down, bowing 90 degree with one foot, tiptoeing at the edge with a high kick. It’s insanely fun to watch!

(3) Secure "Click" Design- Each of the square magnetic tiles has 8 attachment “dots” which can connect securely with the ball run pieces with an audibly and very satisfying “click” sound. I find the ease of connection and magnetic strength really impressive. The set comes with a total of 96 pieces including a bowl, U-shaped, corners, straight pieces of two different lengths, 4 wavy slides, 34 square tiles etc. LOVE the variety.

(4) Beautiful Colours - The translucent colours is truly magical and spell-binding!

(5) Safe Materials- According to Toymagine website, the pieces were done using ultrasonic welding process, riveted on edges for double protection, made of child-safe, non-toxic, BPA free and lead free CPC certified materials.

Thank you Toymagine !

Carry-Play™ , By Kingdom Playroom

Nature/ Type:          Clever / patented-design carry table

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  Any / or probably 1 year-old ++

Who would love this: Sensory play / Duplo or Lego / activities lovers

Carry-Play™ by Kingdom Playroom is one of the smartest kid tables I have ever seen. It’s innovative, patented, light-weight, with Scandinavian-feel, fits multiple purposes. I’m blown away by the ingenuity of the design. Thank you Kingdom Playroom for gifting one to us so that I can share this inspiring product with my amazing followers!

Why I love ❤️ this clever activity table?

(1) Compatible with Lego/ Duplo building blocks- Carry-Play comes with two reversible table tops that are compatible respectively with standard Lego and Duplo / Mega bricks . When the kids realised the building bases can be set up vertically, they decided to “elevate” their Duplo play experience (like, literally). We built a hanging pet shop, dangerous flying slide, upside down bus station, and strange “floating” truck. It was a “bizarre” and unexpected fun play!

(2) Storage compartments / sensory bins - The table tops can be removed, revealing two large storage compartments / sensory play bins / mini experiment labs/ [insert other crazy activities with kids]. We used it for “morning surprise” to “unveil” rotated toys of the day. There are 4 clip-on holders that can be attached to the sides of the table. It is 100% waterproof for indoor or outdoor (or “underwater”) use. The versatility and multi-functionality of this invention is unbelievably awesome!

(3) Foldable, portable table- As per its name, the table can be carried around like a vintage portmanteau. Yes, the table is foldable and can be converted into a 3.5 kg small-size cabin baggage. It’s a perfect portable item for picnic, camping, sleepover, travel or backyard tea party.

(4) Adjustable height- This table “grows” with your kids! With 8 detachable legs, the table height can be adjusted within seconds. The greatest news is, you can also purchase additional legs separately to convert Carry-Play into a standard 74cm adult desk. The expansion pack also comes with removable trays that can help with easy clean-up of any messy play. Love the extra accessories!

(5) Pretty design- I love the clean, minimalist, soft-colours, gender neutral design of the table covers.

(6) Safe materials- The product is made of high quality ABS plastic; BPA, phthalates and lead free.

(7) Worldwide shipping- Good news to all, worldwide shipping is available!

Recommended age:  3 year-old ++

Who would love this: Kids who love keeping themselves busy with all sort of sensory activities

I love puzzles, decoding secret messages, unlocking doors, and uncovering clues. This Medium Construction Sensory Board from Flax + Grove reminds me of a kid-version escape room: it’s a series of brain stimulating and dexterity challenges, one engaging activity after another, all beautifully incorporated in one pinewood board.

Thank you Flax + Grove for gifting this sensory board to our little mystery solvers in exchange for this honest review.

Why I love ❤️ this toy:

(1) Quality Design - The 40cm x 40cm board is lovingly crafted with appealing sensory activities: LED flip switch, spirit level with liquid, tape measure with rubberised case, wooden 3-blade fan, secret “tools” storage case, door latch completes with padlock and keys, abacus with counting beads and rings, fidget spinner, wooden construction pieces (nuts, bolts, rods, and wrench) nicely organised in a wood holder. The kids were thrilled exploring and discovering the delightful surprises. They were mesmerised by the momentum of the spinner, the “light-up”, the unlocking challenge, and building activities. I love how the board incorporates a mixture of real gadgets and wooden sensory toys. It is aesthetically pleasing, attractive to kids, and of heirloom quality.

(2) Handmade & Customised - Each board is handmade with love and care. Flax + Grove products can be customised and designed based on customer’s requests. We can choose from a selection of small cubes / travel bars, to small/ medium/ large boards. You can specifically ask for sensory objects that spin, shut / open, rattle, latch, slide, tap and [insert: let your imagination runs wild], or add an adjustable stand for the board. The friendly owners Jen + Ash will endeavour to make your dream comes true!

(3) Supporting Local Artisans - Flax + Grove ships Australian wide and has a pick up point at Newport (Victoria). All doors, cogs, propellers, clock and abacuses are handmade and securely attached with industrial strength glue and screws. Basic 101, by LaQ

Nature/ Type:          Really clever, made-in-Japan construction kits

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  5 year-old ++

Who would love this: 2D models building/ construction lovers for LaQ beginners

Our boy is officially a HUGE LaQ fan! He loves all his cool and spectacular 3D models, but he also enjoys building quick and easy 2D models for his little sister. If you intend to explore and test out LaQ for the first time, this Basic 101 might be an excellent start! The recommended age for this set is 5-year-old, but I think a 3-year-old would be able to accomplish most of the flat 2D models without much difficulties.

Why I love ❤️ this toy:

(1) Actual Life Size 2D Diagram- This set includes 185 pieces and two double-sided instruction sheets. What I love most is that the instruction sheets show images in actual life size 2D diagram, so the kids can easily identify and match the LaQ pieces. This set comes with two shapes (square and triangle) and two connectors of different widths. It provides beginners an introductory understanding and chance to familiarise themselves with the basic construction process (shape + connector + shape…) before moving on to the more complicated building structures. My five-year-old started his LaQ journey with this set. He is intrigued by the snapping sound when the pieces clicked and connected securely together in a snap.

(2) Interesting Models - We love the wide variety of models that can be built using the pieces in this basic beginner set: the boy’s absolute favourite dinosaurs, vehicles (fire truck, ambulance, rocket, and even a UFO!), a robot, animals (crab, giraffe, elephant, turtle, penguin etc), bouquet of flowers, butterfly, and many more. There is a total of 46 2D images to keep the kids busy and creative.

(3) Multiple Colours- The pieces come in 10 exciting colours. My personal favourites are the special “pastel” shades, i.e sky blue, baby pink, and lime green. These are fantastic addition to the other LaQ construction sets if you would like some bright unique pieces of different colours!

Thank you LaQ (Australia) for providing this really remarkable toy for my review. This is a real quality, made-in-Japan product that I highly recommend!

3D Magentic Blocks - 32 pieces, by STEAM Studio Toys

Nature/ Type:          Translucent 3D magnetic blocks

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  3 year-old ++

Who would love this: Magnetic models lovers!

Imagine traditional building blocks combined with see-through translucent feature, strong neodymium magnets, and safety certifications? These 3D Magnetic Blocks - 32 Piece Set amazes us with its innovative and spectacular design. Thank you STEAM Studio Toys for providing us TWO sets of these beautiful toy in exchange for an honest review. We are truly grateful!

Why I love ❤️ this toy:

(1) Incredible Variety of Shapes- Each set features 32 pieces of 3D magnetic geometric shapes in bright, vibrant colours (red, orange, yellow, blue, green) and diverse shapes (10 cubes, 6 square pyramids, 4 triangular prisms, 4 right triangular prisms, 2 trapezoidal prisms, 2 cuboids, 2 cylindrical sectors and 2 half cylinders), and an idea sheet. I love the unique and fascinating shapes of these blocks. Within minutes, the kids had put up a dinosaur with spikes, a three-dimensional standing robot, a helicopter completes with rotor, and a car with half-cylindrical wheels. We are completely enchanted by the vividness and vibrancy of these blocks.

(2) Rotating and Strong Magnets- Encased securely in each block are rotating and freely spin-able magnets that enable attachments of the blocks in multiple directions without polarity restrictions. The embedded magnets are reasonably strong, encourages engaging and creative build by young kids (my two-year-old enjoys building with these blocks independently without much need of assistance).

(3) Safety- The blocks were made using press-sealing process and food-grade ABS plastic. The toy contains zero BPA, phthalates, or latex. Steam Studio toys are certified in compliance with the relevant Australian Standards on safety of children’s toys.

(4) Educational and Shape-Learning - I love how educational and versatile these blocks are. We experimented by combining two triangular shape to make a perfect cube; we learned how double trapezoid can form a hexagonal prism, all while having great imaginative fun exploring these blocks. We also learned how to balance crazy structures by adjusting its weight distribution. These are great educational toy that we really love!

Thank you Steam Studio for the awesome recommendation and gifts!

Edo 25 - Giant Cardboard Bricks (Havana), by Play Edo

Nature/ Type:          Environmental-friendly giant cardboard bricks

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  3 year-old ++

Who would love this: Building and Construction mini lovers!

“Now mummy, this is a laughing castle. You can only enter if you are funny.” Said the five-year-old, guarding his cardboard castle with his faithful sister sidekick. Seriously, kids’ imagination, they blow you away! We received a set of Edo 25 - Giant Cardboard Bricks (Havana) from Play Edo Australia in exchange for our honest review. Oh, the craziness that these simple cardboard boxes create!

Why I love ❤️ this toy:

(1) Smart, Open-Ended Play- The set comes with cardboard pieces in flat sheets to be assembled and converted into 25 giant and uniquely designed building blocks. Imagine Lego bricks in 1x2 and 1x1, but in large cardboard form. That’s Play Edo for you! It’s that sort of toy where no explanation nor guidance is needed. The kids lead the play. We have “wooden” fireplace, ginormous robot, cute cubby, animals couch, and flying-dragon built up, dismantled, and recreated. It was a series of non-stop actions and co-operative projects. The smart interlocking design means we can easily build steady, difficult-to-topple vertical structures that stand well. The double blocks can also be connected into one long structure using the “junctions” cardboard pieces. I am loving the versatility of these blocks!

(2) Easy Assembling Instructions- The set comes in a giant portable carrying box consisting of flat cardboard sheets and an instruction guide with comprehensive illustrations. Once you have learnt the techniques after assembling one or two blocks, the entire process is a real breeze. It took me literally a minute or less to complete each block.

(3) Strength of the Blocks - I am loving the high tech strength of the blocks (both of my kids can put their entire  weight on the built “dragon” without causing any damage.) They are also extremely light-weight; I have absolute peace of mind watching my two-year-old carrying the blocks around, or even throwing them across the room pretending to defend against a fiery dragon.

(4) Storage Ideas- This blocks presents us with various fun “storage” ideas and solutions. We “pack up” the blocks by building trendy brick wall and creative toy shelf with them, without occupying much space. We are absolutely loving Play Edo and we hope you would try it out one day!

Basic 511, By LaQ

Nature/ Type:          Really clever, made-in-Japan construction kits

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  5 year-old ++

Who would love this: Models building/ construction lovers (If you love Lego, you probably would  love this too!)

The universe of toys is full of wonderful surprises and incredible ingenuity! It’s these clever and creative toys that keep me passionately testing, playing, writing, reviewing and rating! LaQ (Australia) sent me this made-in-Japan Basic 511 recently in exchange for an honest review, and oh that joy that this inspiring toy imparts! My five-year-old sat still for HOURS during the weekend building one model after another, we had to “forcefully” drag him out for a playground break!

Why I love ❤️ this toy:

(1) 7 LaQ Pieces- Whilst Lego requires advanced techniques and sometimes specialised elements to achieve building outcome with cursive surface or rotational / different degrees turn, LaQ makes them possible like a “piece of cake” by just repeatedly using 7 different parts: Square and triangle pieces, five types of “connectors” (three-sided clips, 90 degree turn, cursive, and “ordinary” joints of two different widths). The set has a massive 650 pieces in 6 primary colours (Including 30 unique parts consisting of mini and large wheels / shafts). The instruction booklet has 12 intriguing models. Once we became familiarised with the parts (which didn’t take long since there are just 7 types), we get the Dinosaur, Dump Truck, robots and other self-created models completed breezily and almost stress-free (even my five-year-old thinks some of the structures were surprisingly “too easy”). We are impressed and loving the super cool models that can be done by this product of true genius!

(2) Storage Case- The set includes a blue plastic storage case divided into three compartment for the major shapes, connectors, and special elements. I find it handy and organised.

(3) Great Instructions - the instructions are thorough, well-illustrated, and labelled-accurately with number references for each part. The pieces can be easily snapped (with sound!), clicked, and pulled apart. Even the boy can independently build substantial parts of the models just by following the pictorial instructions.

Thank you LaQ Australia for introducing us such a game-changer toy!

Plui Rainball, Boi, Oogi Fant, Oogi Pilla, By MOLUK

Nature/ Type:          Innovative and Unique Bath Toys

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  3 year-old ++

Who would love this: Parents who are struggling to get their kids into bath EACH DAY!

Parents of this universe, I’m with you! Seriously why is bath time getting so difficult these days? It’s a daily non-stop negotiating, persuading, wailing, begging, threatening, and coercing to drag the kids from toy room into bathroom. I’m not sure about you, but in this household, bath toys are absolute essentials. These MOLUK toys are so awesome I’m really excited to talk about them today!

In the pictures, we have the green Plui Rainball, black-and-white Boi, baby blue Oogi Fant, and the bright orange Oogi Pilla.

Why I love ❤️ these toys:

(1) Special Bath Toys- they are unique, each of them, in their special ways. My personal favourite is the Plui Rainball: that huge downpour of shower coming out from the soft silicone tentacles is a sight to behold! The Boi floats and dances in water beautifully, the Oogi Fant turns everything into funny elephant, and the Oogi Pilla is that elastic and loads-of-fun caterpillar-lookalike that just simply love sticking to almost everything. These toys keep the kids entertained and have been a huge help to our recent daily routine.

(2) Stick To Each Other- I love the suction cups, and how the Moluk toys are usually able to stick to one another. Apart from Boi which is a little too heavy to stay on any vertical surface for too long, the two Oogis have quite a good suction for some good old sticking play.

(3) Improved Design - the latest and re-designed version of Plui Rainball (pictured) can be “opened-up” and taken apart for cleaning, which is a great improvement from the previous form (which apparently caused mould-growth according to some online reviews). Well done for getting this problem sorted!

(4) Versatile Toys- apart from being bath toys, most of these moluk products can also be played on “dry land”. Loving how versatile these things are!

Gnome House, By QToys

Nature/ Type:          Natural Wooden Gnome House

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  3 year-old ++

Who would love this: Kids who love magical garden  & mystical figures

There is something about QToys and its wooden products that make me want to pause and just admire each piece carefully. This Gnome House is one of the many QToys that I can’t stop gazing and smiling like a little kid.

Why I love ❤️ this toy:

(1) Fascinating Design - the multi-level structure, the colourful gnomes, the tiny wooden furniture, the pulley that can spin a rope up and down, a removable ladder, a swing, cottages. This is a toy with a complete setting for any whimsical and fancy stories to occur. My two kids were completely fascinated, and spent loads of time in front of this loveable house, creating their little fairy tales.

(2) The Materials - All QToys products are made of plantation timber, using non-toxic and child-safe materials. They look durable, natural, and absolutely adorable.

(3) Great Size and Weight- the size- it’s big enough for a fantastic imaginative play, but light enough to be brought around from one room to another.

The 4 year-old boy was a bit troubled at first by the “faceless” gnomes that can’t sit” and don’t seem to fit well onto the beds. But he soon forgot about all these so-called “imperfections”, and busy acting out a story involving gnomes keeping themselves busy with spring cleaning and “recycling” (don’t ask me why). I think it’s fair to conclude that this house is well-loved by both adults and kids.

Elephant Trunk, by Gamewright

Nature/ Type:           Cute board game for young kids with elephant + travel themes

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  4 year-old ++

Who would love this: Young kids who love a cute games

I have a bit of mixed feelings about this Elephant’s Trunk game from Gamewright. On the one hand, it’s super cute and colourful; BUT the rules, oh the rules. I found myself reading and re-reading the rules a few times and still scratching my head in confusion.

First off, why I love ❤️ this game:

(1) Lovely Theme - I love the creativity, the play of word (elephant’s “trunks” game with travel trunks, how clever!), the colourful tin suitcases, wooden elephant piece and dice. The game pieces are well-made and lovely to look at.

(2) Beautiful Components - kids are attracted to the pretty pieces, especially the tin containers. My 1 year-old ++ has no idea how to play board game yet, but she loves opening and closing the “trunks”. My four-year-old thinks the tin containers are really cool and useful for his pretend play.

(3) Colour-Recognition- this is an educational colour recognition game for young kids.

Having said that, I find the complicated rules to be a little frustrating. In a gist, clothing tokens are divided amongst player, Emmet the elephant is placed in front of any trunk. The objective is to pack all your clothing items into a matching colour trunk by rolling the coloured dice. The twist: if the dice reveals a mouse, the player needs to empty the trunk where Emmet is standing. There are also additional rules about the number of tokens a player can place into a trunk depending on where Emmet is, moving Emmet clockwise when a “mouse” is rolled, and the number of tokens to be used depending on number of players etc. We got the rules all messed up really shortly, and ended up making our own rules along the game. 🤣

In short, I think this game has good potential once we understand and get used to the rules. But as of now, I just enjoy watching the two kids opening, closing and opening the tins repeatedly and randomly for no reason. 😂
