The six-shapes patterns blocks are universal and well-loved mathematical manipulatives for over a few decades. There are different brands and types of these pattern blocks in market, but for today, I’m going to talk about this Daju Toys Pattern Blocks Set that has brought so much JOY to our family’s learning moments!
Why I love ❤️ this toy:
(1) 140 Translucent Pattern Blocks - What sets Daju’s pattern blocks apart from most of the other brands is the translucent nature of these pieces. The set comes with 140 pieces - they are slightly lucid, beautifully refracted with rays of various hues, and light weight. The pieces work superbly under natural or sensory light, a perfect complement if you have a light panel or LED learning table.
(2) Build Geometric Images - It is amazing to see what clever things that these 6 shapes can make; orange squares, yellow hexagons, green equilateral triangles, red trapezoids, purple 30° narrow rhombus, blue 60° rhombus. The perfectly-sized angles and length of each sides mean the pieces can be matched to form various symmetrical or geometric images. For example, the squares and hexagons have the same side-length as the triangles. I love how kids get to learn about shapes, angles, fractions and other mathematical concepts in a series of puzzle sorting and pattern recognising games, all in such visually clear and fun way!
(3) Activity Cards with Different Difficulty Levels - I really love the activity cards included! The kids love using the shapes to compose different 2D images, from flying plane, rocket, dancing girl, dog, swan and many more! I love that there are different difficulty levels for the image composition games; the kids can start with the easier version (where more clues are provided), or dive straight into the more difficult version (where they need to use various shapes to compose the white images of the depicted objects). There are also activity about fractions (our three-year-old was super excited when she realised she can combine two trapezoids to make a hexagon). There is also a unique shape dice included for various learning games.
(4) Sturdy Storage Container - I love that all the pieces and activity cards can be stored neatly in the sturdy storage container comes with the set.
