Children of the World, by Mideer - REVIEW

Nature/ Type:          Beautiful art puzzle for kids

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  3 year-old ++

Who would love this: Puzzle lovers

Alison Jay, Eric Carle, Miyanishi. I love how Mideer collaborates with the most spectacular children’s book illustrators, and transforms their artworks into aesthetically pleasing puzzles that capture our hearts again and again. This “Children of the World” is another artistic work extracted from a book of the same name, illustrated by award-winning David Dean , published by Barefoot Books

Why I love ❤️ this puzzle:

(1) Children From Around The World - The artwork itself is exciting, heart-warming, and bursting with overflowing of childhood innocence. David Dean captures the features of diversity and playful expressions of the 8 kids beautifully. The colours are vibrant and attractive, bright and full of energy. A straight hair “Viking” girl, gritted teeth and fearless eyes, showing a unique helmet mounted with two sharp horns; cheeky “sinister” grin with sideward gaze, pairing with an unmistakable pointed cone-shaped witch hat; a sheriff “cowboy” hat with curved-up brim from the Wild West, with a serious “don’t mess up with me” eyes staring up from beneath; polka dots clown hat and funny face, stripy tiger hat and a roar, classy top hat and a big smile, golden crown and “snobbish” look, and I’m loving that vintage 1930s hat and stylish braided hair.

I love that there are 8 different hairpieces, 8 diverse ethnicities, 8 special cultures, 8 fun-loving expressions - but ALL sharing great fun. I have not read the book myself yet, but from the inviting illustrations, I know this is going to be one delightful and informative book jam-packed with all things wonderful about children around the globe!

(2) 84 Puzzle Pieces- Quality wise, the 84 puzzle pieces are thick, large-size, all nicely contained within a durable cardboard box.

(3) Colours! - The wide array of colours and distinctive images made this a relatively easy puzzle to sort and assemble. The kids divide the puzzle pieces by treating the image as 8 separate rectangular mini puzzles of 9 to 12 pieces each. The standard ribbon cut on grid form definitely helps with the quick completion.

(4) Other Accessories - The set also comes with an enamel pin depicting one of the characters on the puzzle, a glue and scraper.

Tiger’s Wonderful Journey, by Mideer - REVIEW

Nature/ Type:          Beautiful art puzzle with "orange" theme

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  8 year-old ++

Who would love this: Puzzle lovers!

It’s the tangerine’s dream, it’s flaming orange, it’s the wild wild jungle in burning and explosive colours! I can’t tell you enough how much I love the combination of art and puzzle, and I think Mideer has done it perfectly again! Thank you for sending this Artist Puzzle - “Tiger’s Wonderful Journey” over. I’m extremely impressed!

Why I love ❤️ this toy:

(1) Intensely Orange Artwork - The artwork is extracted from a quirky picture book called “It’s A Great Big Colourful World” by the amazing Belgian illustrator Tom Schamp . Each spread of pages depicts the adventure of Otto the cat and Leon and chameleon’s discovery journey of colours, including this powerful and intensely orange world that has been turned into a 240-pieces puzzle! An enormous Bengal Tiger dominates a world bursting with fanciful, whimsical, vivid orange of random objects, unexpected surprises, and clever puns. We have a “Tiger Woops” roaming in pride, a “Fanta Claus” zooming past in eccentric juice bottle, and a “Smashing pumpkin” next to a cauldron-stirring potion-making witch with a pointed traffic cone hat. The artwork is overflowing  with witty humour, brilliant illustrations, all contained in an unapologetically orange-tinted universe. Kids and adults can spend hours scrutinising and exploring the delightful, busy and intricate details of this beautiful puzzle cum artwork!

(2) Quality - Like many other Mideer puzzles, the quality of the puzzle pieces is top-notch, thick and durable, all nicely packed in a solid cardboard box.

(3) 240 Pieces - The 240-pieces puzzle in standard ribbon cut is probably more suited for older kids and adults; it’s challenging but not “impossible”. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of picking up puzzle pieces showing miniature, unrelated yet distinctive things (tomato soup, spaghetti bolognese, orange crane, and traffic light?) that come together eventually and assembled into a feast of riotous orange masterpiece.

(4) Includes Accessories - The set also comes with a tiger enamel pin, a glue, scraper, and an artwork poster.

Kid Storybook Torch, By Mideer - REVIEW

Nature/ Type:          Torch for story-time sessions in the dark

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  3 year-old ++

Who would love this: Fairy-tale and bedtime story lovers

Story time, the magical moment where pumpkin transformed into carriage, Pinocchio met his fairy, and gingerbread man escaped from oven. Mideer sent me this “Kid Storybook Torch” recently, and it’s such an instant HIT! I love how it makes story time unique and exciting in a fresh and different way.

Why I love ❤️ this toy:

(1) Innovative Torch - I love how versatile this clever torch is! It’s a flashlight, a story projector, and a “night light” with illumination of stars and moon. I love how easy it is to change the light mode, to switch it on and off, with just a press of button (one button, three applications). The kids have been using the torch in their “shadow puppet show”, dinosaur movie scenes, and indoor “campfire” night. The torch makes things feel “adventurous” yet calming at the same time. The kids created their “daylight” and “night light” using the interchangeable function of the torch. According to the instructions, the light will automatically turn off after 15 minutes without operation, which I think is an awesome feature!

(2) Projection Discs - The box comes with 8 miniature projection discs that can be inserted into the torch slot, and matching story cards (in both English and Mandarin): Cinderella, Thumbelina, Pinocchio, The Happy Prince, The Boy Who Cried Wolf, The Gingerbread Man, The Enormous Turnip, I Want To Go To Space. Each disc contains 8 pictures that can be rotated and projected onto the wall or ceiling. The set comes with a hinged ring that binds the cards in an organised way. The stories are written in a short and succinct way, probably not your most well-written script, but they give us an idea on how to expand our stories and be creative in our narration in the dark. I also love the adjustable focal length: The farther the distance is, the larger the image projected.

(3) Torch Design - I love the lantern torch design. It has a handle for easy portability. It is trendy in blue, with interesting “night time” related images on it (sleepy bunnies, constellation, snoring bears, fireflies etc). It also comes with 3 LR 44 batteries.

(4) Organised Box - I love the box that keeps everything together with a magnetic closure lid.

Borax-Free Clay, By Mideer - REVIEW

Nature/ Type:          Non-sticky borax-free clay

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  3 year-old ++

Who would love this: Playdough lovers

I remember those sessions of colourful creations during childhood using factory-made playdough bought from stores - messy and sticky, a little pungent, dry and crunchy within a day or two once out of sealed packages. Being a mumma myself today, I can completely understand the ambivalent attitude of many parents when it comes to playdough. We discovered soon the magic of homemade playdough, the toxic-free and natural sort that gives us peace of mind. I had my initial doubt trying out the Mideer borax-free clay  I wasn’t too sure what to expect from another factory-manufactured clay, but boy, it sure felt different from my childhood-memory’s one!

Why I love ❤️ this toy:

(1) Borax-Free - The ingredients are listed in mandarin as these - “Water (水), Microspheres (微球), synthetic glue (合成糊剂), eco-friendly pigments 环保颜料.” I am no expert in playdough, but from the listed ingredients, the clay is probably nothing as natural as the homemade kind. I did some research on what “borax-free” means. According to Google, borax is an ingredient commonly found in household cleaning products, and a popular item to produce squishy and stretchy slime. It can be lethal if ingested, but the risk is apparently lower once it’s diluted in water and glue, but it’s definitely not zero risk. Borax is sometimes inserted in factory-made playdough to keep it fresher for a longer period. Mideer clay is made of Crerax technology with formulae to ensure the clay is both stretchable and completely boron-free.

(2) Non-Sticky - So how’s the texture like without borax as cross-linking agent? It’s impressive! The clay is non-sticky, mess-free, stretchable like what we usually found at the top of pizza, and extremely easy to clean up. It feels like somewhere in between slime and playdough; it’s lightweight, and easy to form shapes and structures.

(3) No Pungent Smell - It’s odourless.

(4) Awesome Bright Colours - The colours are bright, exciting, and made of eco-friendly pigments.

(5) Storage Box + Tools - I love the plastic storage box, five tools, and the graphic instructions (love the rainbow!).

This is an (unexpectedly) good product, probably can’t compare to the purity of homemade types, but a good product nonetheless.

Let's Play with Stickers Set - Level 3, By Mideer - REVIEW

Nature/ Type:          Stickers and Cut & Paste Activity Book

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  5 year-old ++

Who would love this: Kids that love stickers / arts & crafts

Hands up 🙌🏻. if you are a stickers lover, adults or kids! Our family love these sticky, versatile, full of possibilities adhesive labels bursting with vibrance and surprises. Mideer “Let's Play with Stickers Set - Level 3” has been a superb help keeping the two energetic kids engaged and busy during weekends. I am super excited to share with you today how wonderfully-designed this activity kit is!

Why I love ❤️ this set:

(1) 50 "Sticky" Activities - This little green booklet consists of 50 pages of interesting and colourful activities, ranging from different levels of difficulties. We started off with the basic stickers peeling and pasting activity. It’s a fantastic way to spend time with young kids in an educational and fun way; the two kids searched, found, and identified the “correct” sticker pieces (elephant trunk, monkey’s ears, windows, eyes, pretty hair bow etc), and matched them to the illustrated sheets to form complete images of cheeky blue elephant, bunny with ribbon accessory, cool cowboy with a wild rag, apartment block with friendly neighbours and so on. The kids thoroughly enjoyed watching the artistic and fun scenes coming together progressively.

(2) Puzzles, Games & Others -  Next up, there are various creatively-designed and illustrated cutting and pasting activities, with the use of scissors and glue: from dressing up a doll, maze-tracing, geometric puzzle, logical games, sorting exercise, sequencing, and so so many more! We spent HOURS learning about metamorphosis process from tadpole to frog, sorting lollies in accordance with colours, “hanging” socks on washing line, arranging the clocks etc. The kids just couldn’t STOP completing one challenge after another! We love that the activity combined dexterity, hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills with series of problems solving exercises.

(3) Perforated Pages - I love the perforated pages for each activity! Each sheet can be easily torn out, both kids can choose and work on their preferred activities simultaneously. That’s pretty awesome when you need to keep two kids entertained at the same time!

(4) Reward Stickers & Progress Chart - I also love the reward stickers and progress chart included, all in a single booklet!

Magnets Traffic, by Mideer - REVIEW

Nature/ Type:          Creative mix-and-match magnetic toy

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  3 year-old ++

Who would love this: Puzzle, magnetic, and vehicle lovers.

There are many versions and styles of portable magnetic mix-and-match sets in the toy market. We have personally tested a few different brands; we love some more than the others, and I’m always looking for that little “extra” that sets a toy apart and beyond. Mideer is one of those brands that always has some features that makes my heart dances. They recently sent me this Magnets Traffic set, and I’m really happy with the quality, design, and how much fun it brings to the kids!

Why I love ❤️ this toy:

(1) Cute Mix-And-Match + Vehicle-Theme- This toy comes with 58 magnetic pieces and idea cards to build 8 types of vehicles. The design is super cute and bursting with bright happy colours! There’s a cool pilot dog flying an airplane, a rocket blasting off into space with a mysterious three-eyed green alien watching from the window, a tantalising ice-cream truck, a tractor loaded with hay bales, a gigantic six-wheeled trailer, an orange digger adorably operated by a rooster, a steam boat with two lifebuoys, and a stunning fire engine completes with red siren light and aerial ladder. There are also “accessories” to go with the magnetic pictures, including a traffic light, fire hydrant, a triangular warning sign with exclamation mark and so on. Apart from the visually-attractive illustrations, what I love most is how thick and durable-looking the magnetic pieces are, and how well they stick to the magnetic board.

(2) Clever Storage Box- My favourite feature is the cleverly-designed storage box. Not only that it is sturdy and tidy with two compartments, I also love how the magnetic board can be propped up by fitting into a slot and placed vertically on tabletop. I love the magnetic background board with scene of land, sea and air for creative-building. I also love the pull-out display drawer.

(3) Different Ways to Play- I love the versatility of this toy. The kids can replicate the suggested vehicle designs according to the idea cards, or they can create freely and mix the pieces up (who doesn’t love an ice cream sign floating in air, or a mysterious camp fire by the road side 🤣). What’s more, the magnetic pieces can also be a decorative item for the fridge!

I love it!

Dinosaur Age Puzzle, by Mideer

Nature/ Type:          Dinosaur puzzle in a carry case

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  3 year-old ++

Who would love this: Puzzle + Dinosaur lovers!

Mideer Toys transforms toys and puzzles into aesthetically pleasing artworks that charm our hearts and engage the kids. It’s no secret I’m a HUGE fan of artistically and uniquely designed educational toys, and Mideer is always one of my personal favourites. We received this Dinosaur Age Puzzle for review recently; no surprise with the verdict: the kids got crazy seeing it and have been playing with this puzzle multiple times for the past few days!

Why I love ❤️ this toy:

(1) Dinosaur Theme- An exciting dinosaurs theme never goes wrong! My boy was super excited admiring the vivid brightness and detailed features of these pre-historic creatures. I’m loving all the sharp, bold colours, and the visually-appealing artwork! We love the stegosaurus with its signature spikes, the lambeosaurus with distinctive cranial crest, ankylosaurus and its powerful armour, and pentaceratops with its super cool horns of different types! There is also a fearsome looking megalosaurus (or maybe allosaurus) that storms around with two razor-sharp teeth revealing, a long-neck gentle brontosaurus peacefully enjoying the view, and a few other species roaming around the Jurassic scene. We are in love with this stimulating puzzle that vibrantly sets out the dinosaurs world in captivating illustrations!

(2) Big Puzzle for Little Hands- These are some awesome BIG puzzle pieces for little hands. My three-year-old can easily grasp, manage, and fit the pieces with no difficulties. I love how thick and durable-looking they are! The puzzle has a total of 104 pieces, but it didn’t take long for us to complete it due to the wide array, distinctive and discernible colours range of the picture. The edges are smooth and rounded. The standard ribbon grid cut of consistent shape and size definitely makes completion of the puzzle easy for young kids with organised line by line arrangement.

(3) Carry Case- The handheld carry case is AWESOME! I really love how sturdy the portable box is, and how thoughtfully- designed it is with a child-friendly toggle latch. It is delicate, makes packing-up tidy, and so heart-throbbingly beautiful!

Mining Heroes, by Mideer

Nature/ Type:          Rocks discovery in a fun, creative way!

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  6 year-old ++

Who would love this: Science & Geology lovers

One of our favourite books is Magic Bus’s “Inside The Earth” where we get to learn about the wacky and unusual knowledge about rocks through an adventurous travel deep into the crust of earth. Mideer Toys sent us this Mining Heroes set for review recently. The innovative concept reminds me of this all-time favourite book - save that this time, the kids need to put on real hard-work to enjoy the fruits of knowledge!

Why I love ❤️ this toy:

(1) Creative New Experience- We love the whole new experience of pretending to be a crew of geologists exploring the unknowns! This set comes with a blue chalk brick (made of non-toxic gypsum material according to information from Mideer), miniature tools including a wooden chisel, hammer, brush, magnifying glass and a black velvety pouch. Our team of scientists were all geared-up to dig out the 7 built-in gems. We had never tried this sort of activity before, so the kids were naturally excited to experience the brand new world of geology!

(2) Patience, Patience, Patience! This toy is probably not for everyone; it’s a bit dusty, need loads of hard-work and sweat before you can enjoy the true gems! I was exhausted after quite many minutes of chiselling, hammering, and brushing. But the kids (oh, the KIDS, you gotta salute their energy!) were really determined to “get to the bottom of it”(literally). They knocked and dug and screamed at the top of their lungs “come on, DON’T give up!” in highly motivating energy. Each time a gemstone was unearthed, we had a round of cheers and celebratory high-fives. Lucky for us, all 7 gemstones were found at close proximity at the centre of brick, so we didn’t need to search too hard. This is a fantastic toy to train up our superpower of patience and perseverance!

(3) 7 Gemstones- Obsidian, amethyst, rose quartz, citrine, fluorite, moonstone, and scoria. None of us are expert in rocks, but we love admiring the distinctive features of each of them - the slightly glittery one, the cool volcanic lava produce, the romantic pink, the mysterious purple. We love them all!

(4) Storage Box & Bag- I love the sturdy box and the velvety drawstring bag for organised storage.

Overall, we had a great time testing this out!

“You Look Yummy” Dinos, by Mideer

Nature/ Type:          Super adorable dino soft toys!

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  3 year-old ++

Who would love this: Dino lover, book lover, soft-toy lover, and anyone who loves cute things

Rexy and Anklia (as my kids affectionately call them) came into our lives recently, and have very fast becoming the most-talk-about soft toys in this family. I was instantly attracted by these very artistic-looking dinos of vastly different style, size and appearance. I decided to dig deeper to unearth the background, and ah, what a delight to discover the beautiful story connecting these two adorable toys! Thank you Mideer for sending them over. I’m truly grateful!

Why I love ❤️ these toys:

(1) Characters from Best-Selling Book - Mr T-Rex and little Ankylosaurus are characters from international best-seller picture book series “You Look Yummy” written and illustrated by Miyanishi. It’s a heart-warming tale of an unlikely pair developing a strong bond between “father and son”. Then came the bittersweet (and slightly controversial) ending where Daddy decided to part way with little Yummy because it’s what best for the kid. I love the distinctive Godzilla-look, earthy-green fur, orange embroidered highlights, bright green scales, and the (intentionally mismatching) pair of kind eyes of the big Dino. Little Yummy is cute as a button, vibrant in colours, and irresistibly adorable. I am loving this artistic collaboration between Mideer and Miyanishi!

(2) Super adorable & cuddly- The dinos are cuddly and velvety soft. Daddy holds a fish in arm and can clasp his hands together with the attached hook-and-loop Velcro fasteners. It also has “rustling” feet filled with beans within. Little Yummy is squeezable and soft to touch.

(3) Unique label- The lenticular labels on the dino are extraordinarily cute: tilt the card side to side, and watch little Yummy climbing up and down Daddy’s back. Simple technique, lovely touches!

(4) Contrast- I love the contrast between the two dinos- the fierceness and dull green-greyness of daddy, and the tiny “doesn’t-have-a-care” sort of innocence in a child. It’s fun watching the dinos interacting with each other in such quiet sweet way under the directing hands of the kids!

Let’s Make Origami, by Mideer

Nature/ Type:          Creative origami activities book

Rating:                     ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Recommended age:  3 year-old ++

Who would love this: Art and Craft Lovers- from kids to adults!

This week we experienced the magic of paper folding art. Mideer sent us this “Let’s Make Origami” Level 1 recently, and we are loving the educational and kids-friendly lessons of this thoughtfully-designed booklet.

Why I love ❤️ the kit:

(1) 50 activities- great origami introduction to kids- The set contains a booklet of double-sided patterned papers to make 50 crafty arts. There are three different levels, with difficulty progresses gradually starting from the simple one-star beginner level. I love that the book has quite a few really easy “one or two-fold only” creations, which is great for my two-year-old to learn  the most basic folding skill in a frustration-free way. With just one fold, a secret key reveals a chest of sensational treasure, a pink elephant transforms itself into an adorable piglet, and a worm wriggles out from a juicy strawberry. With two-fold, a caterpillar turns itself into a gorgeous butterfly, and a Dalmatian changes into a long-bodied Dachshund. The steps are elegantly simple, the outcomes are delightfully fun. This kit presents perfect introduction of origami art to young children.

(2) Creative activities- We love the creativity of the structures; our favourites include a story-telling “hare and tortoise” folding piece, a 3D dining table completes with feast, a “sorrow and joy” lion and monkey that change their mood depending on whether we are looking from the upper or lower angle. These are some innovative designs that make the craft-making really enjoyable!

(3) Great instructions in 2 languages - I love the clear step-by-step instructions for the more complex sculptures, and the informative explanations on the different folding techniques (written in both English and Mandarin). We learned about basic valley and mountain folds, inside reverse and outside reverse folds, and the more challenging squash fold. The five-year-old got better in following the illustrated guides and folding along the dotted lines, and this mumma is learning to “let go” and tried not to interfere too much in the process. We are both proud of our little achievements!

(4) Something extra- The kit also comes with reward stickers and certificate of completion.

Overall, I’m pleased with the quality of this product!
