I’m no stranger to Let's Play Games wooden puzzles — I’ve completed at least five similar ones before. So trust me when I say this LPG Wooden Fantasy Puzzle - Unicorn is not for the faint-hearted. It’s mercilessly challenging, pushed my patience to the brink, and I nearly pulled my hair out in distress. 😮‍💨 But once it’s done? Ohhh, the joy! ✨🦄

Why I love ❤️ this puzzle: 

(1) 200 Pieces Wooden Puzzle

This unicorn puzzle consists of 200 pieces, and like other puzzles in the LPG wooden range, there are no clear visible borders and no traditional straight frame. You can sort of deduce where the edges might be by observing the slightly whiter space along the sides - a helpful hint, but one that doesn’t always work. Sorting the pieces is super challenging. The colour palette flows in similar tones of pink, purple, blue, and white throughout, intertwining around the unicorn’s horn, face, flowing mane, and even the floral petals and plants along the edges. Everything blends beautifully - and confusingly. Each piece is unique, with many shaped like curls and swirls of the mane, painted in harmonious shades and accented with subtle nature-inspired and floral motifs.

(2) Uniquely Cut With Fantasy Surprises Within!

Every puzzle piece is uniquely cut, with twisting, irregular shapes that stray far from the standard tabs and blanks of mass-produced puzzles. The uneven, random edges add another layer of difficulty, forcing us to rely on spatial awareness and intuition rather than logic alone. As we progressed, we were rewarded with delightful magical and fantasy surprises. Look closely and you’ll spot unicorns, shooting stars, kitten, butterfly, rainbow, crescent moon, and more — all cleverly hidden within the design. Assembling the puzzle became as much about discovery as it was about completion!

Crafted from high-quality, laser-cut wooden pieces, this puzzle feels as good as it looks. The vibrant colours and striking artwork are visually captivating, and the pieces fit together smoothly, sliding effortlessly into place. My kids absolutely lost their minds when they spotted the pixelated styling of Barbecubes in this tiny tin from Alley Cat Games . The video-game, Minecrafty vibe had them locked in instantly - and honestly, if you’re weak to cute dexterity games like we are, you’re done for. Thank you Let's Play Games for providing this review copy!

Why I love ❤️ this game: 

(1) Flip A Card + Place An Item On Grill Racks

To set up: Empty the tin onto the table, pop the grill racks onto the base, shuffle the cards - Done! Barbecubes is ready to go. On your turn, flip a card and place the depicted meat using the teeny tongs (yes, tiny tweezers!) onto the required grill bars - sometimes balancing on one tricky bar, sometimes stretched across two. Some cards even demand your non-dominant hand for extra chaos. You may nudge existing items if you need to. Drop a piece outside the tin? No biggie- pick it up and try again. But drop it into the tin or knock something off the grill? That card is yours. Collect two cards and you’re out. Last griller standing wins!

(2) Dexterity Game With Hints Of Strategy

We love the lighthearted fun with just enough strategy. As the grill fills up, the tension rises. The more tense you get, the more you shake, the more spectacularly you might mess up. A delicious vicious circle. The rules don’t forbid “creative” interpretations, so yes, you’ll get players placing meat on its flat side or trying odd angles—annoying but totally beatable. Much like a real BBQ, space becomes premium fast. Strategy sneaks in through clever placements, sneaky nudges, and trying to make life just a little harder for the next player.

(3) Tiny Adorable Components + Pixelated Minecrafty-Vibe Meats

We are fully obsessed with the tiny wooden steaks, burger patties, fish, bacon strips, and sausages. And the fact that the tin becomes the grill? Love it! The pixelated meats are too adorable! Cards are clean and clear, the tongs feel sturdy, and the wooden grates fit perfectly.

(4) Portable, Crowd-Pleasing, Travel-Friendly Game

This is a portable, silly, crowd-pleasing dexterity game. You can take it anywhere and play with almost anyone. My only tiny gripe: the lid doesn’t stay shut well enough to throw straight into a backpack- but this is easily solved with an elastic band.

Nekojima from Unfriendly Games - I’m a sucker for a good dexterity game, especially when it’s as adorable as this one! Bright, colourful, packed with charm, it doesn’t just play well - it looks amazing on the table too. Thank you Let's Play Games for providing a copy for review. 

Why I love ❤️ it: 

(1) Dexterity Game Inspired By Japan's Cat Islands

Nekojima is a 1–5 player dexterity game inspired by Japan’s cat islands. On your turn, you roll two dice to see which districts you’ll be building in, then draw a cube from the bag to decide the colour (and length!) of the string between your wooden poles — the Denchuus. Place them carefully in the matching quadrants: poles can stack on top of others, but the string can’t touch the board, other strings, or wrap around the poles. To spice things up, sometimes you’ll pull a black cube - which means a cat must be hung from the wires, either by you or by a rival player depending on the mode. Play solo, cooperatively, or competitively; in co-op you’ll climb levels together, while in competitive there’s just one unlucky loser and everyone else gets bragging rights.

(2) Challenging - Different Pole Lengths / Cable Sizes/ Cats Of Varying Poses 

Nekojima isn’t just cute chaos. Different pole lengths, cable sizes, and cat shapes keep every placement unpredictable. At first it feels easy, but soon you’re weaving a wild web of wires, balancing poles on top of each other, and fighting against cords that never sit quite where you want them. Add in cats of varying poses (some much trickier to hang than others) and even a few fun variants like bird nests that cap your stacks, and suddenly this ‘simple’ game feels like a high-wire act!

(3) Adorable Cats With Colourful Table-Top Appearance

Theme-wise, Nekojima nails it. The cats are adorable, and we love the tangle of colourful strings stretched between wobbling poles. It looks fantastic on the table and the whole balancing act fits perfectly with the quirky ‘cat island’ vibe.

(4) Solid, Durable, GREAT Components

The wooden poles are solid and satisfying to handle, the cords are thick and durable, and the circular board is sturdy with clear quadrant divisions. Even the wooden cubes and custom dice have a nice weight to them, while the chunky cardboard cats add a playful touch. Everything in the box feels well-made and built to last - exactly what you want in a dexterity game.

The Treasure Chest packs 200 uniquely shaped pieces - none of those neat, predictable borders you find in a traditional puzzle. Instead, it bursts with the wild, jagged silhouette of a treacherous chest: a gaping mouth lined with razor-sharp fangs, a grotesquely long tongue, and writhing tentacles guarding a hoard of gold like a dragon from some enchanted realm. It’s a scene straight out of a high-stakes fantasy - approach if you dare! I’d wager this is the most dramatic puzzle in the LPG collection. The pieces themselves are unapologetically tricky: swirls, sharp lines, and shapes so irregular - and so deceptively alike - that matching them is a test of both wit and patience. Sorting colors alone is an adventure: a rich clash of funky purples, deep reds, glints of gold coin yellow that could belong anywhere, and ghostly greys for those menacing fangs. Add in the stony granite floor - and you’ve got a puzzle that hooks you from first touch to the final fit.

(2) Discover Delightful Surprises Within

These are miniature works of art, each carved into wild shapes that twist and curl like ancient symbols. This puzzle tests your spatial skills and intuition with every move, but the real magic lies in its hidden treasures. Who would love this:  Anyone that enjoys strategy / abstract games 

I’m not usually drawn to abstract games. But Qwirkle from MindWare, broke through my biases. With its clean, classic design and satisfyingly smooth mechanics, it feels like something that’s been around forever. But surprise—it only came out in 2006! I genuinely think Qwirkle deserves a permanent spot on everyone’s game shelf! Thank you VR Distribution (asmodee Australia) for a copy!

Why I love ❤️ it: 

(1) Abstract Game Bursting With Colours & Shapes!

Qwirkle is abstract, but it’s also bursting with colour and super accessible, even for younger players. There’s no board, just a linen bag filled with 108 chunky wooden tiles, each showing one of six shapes in six vibrant colors. Gameplay is simple to grasp: draw six tiles, take turns placing them Scrabble-style in rows or columns by matching either shape or colour (such as all blue tiles of 6 different shapes, or all square in 6 different colours in a row)—no duplicate of a same tile allowed in a row! Score points as you build, and land a satisfying ‘Qwirkle’ (a full set of six) for a bonus. Keep replenishing your hand until the tiles run out, and whoever scores highest wins. Easy to learn, endlessly replayable

(2) Clever Strategic Punch

The game packs a clever strategic punch. Like many great tile games, it’s all about making the most of your turn: picking the perfect spot, holding out for a Qwirkle, or knowing when to ditch your bad tiles for a fresh hand. Sometimes, the best move is a bold swap—tossing out a few (or all!) of your tiles to come back stronger. There’s just enough decision-making to keep things interesting without ever feeling overwhelming.

(3) Chunky Wooden Tiles With Vibrant Colours

One of Qwirkle’s quiet triumphs is just how good it feels to play. The chunky wooden tiles have a satisfying weight and smooth texture that makes them a joy to handle. Bold shapes, vibrant colors, and sturdy design give the game serious table presence—it looks as good as it plays!

(4) Big, Sturdy Drawstring Cloth Bag

Even the tile bag deserves a shout-out—it’s big, sturdy, and actually built to last. No flimsy fabric here; this drawstring cloth bag is tough enough to handle all 108 chunky wooden tiles and roomy enough for even the largest hands to fit in without a struggle. It’s a small detail, but one that makes a big difference.

Why I love ❤️ this game: 

(1) Classic Quoridor Game With A Pac-Man Twist

This set keeps the core mechanics of the classic Quoridor while adding a fun Pac-Man twist. The abstract pawns are replaced with Pac-Man’s infamous ghosts—Blinky, Inky, Pinky, and Clyde—and the walls are now Pac-Man-inspired blue! Played on a 9x9 grid, the objective remains the same: race to get your ghost to the opposite side of the board before your opponent. On each turn, players move their ghost one space in any direction or place a wall to block their opponent’s path. Walls, which cannot be moved once placed, are crucial for blocking routes, so every placement requires careful thought. This version stays true to original Quoridor, but bringing a new level of Pac-Man excitement to the timeless game.

(2) Bringing Video-Game Variant To The Tabletop!

There’s also an exciting alternate way to play- a variant that brings the essence of the classic video game to the tabletop in a fresh, two (or multi) player showdown! Pac-Man starts in the center, with the ghosts positioned at the edges of the board. Pac-Man moves two spaces per turn, racing to collect all four Power Pellets while avoiding the ghosts. Each time Pac-Man eats a Power Pellet, he gains the ability to move three spaces and can “eat” any ghost he touches, removing it from the board. But beware! If Pac-Man gets caught by a ghost, he loses a life, and the board resets—minus any eaten Power Pellets. The goal for Pac-Man is clear: collect the Power Pellets before he runs out of lives, while the ghosts do everything they can to stop him.

I recently had the pleasure of reviewing the Kookaburra puzzle from Let's Play Games , and I was delighted by the fresh twist it brings to traditional puzzle designs. Today, I’m excited to share about the Kangaroo puzzle - a charming, wildlife-inspired puzzle from the Oceania Animals Series 1. 

Why I love ❤️ this puzzle: 

(1) 200 Pieces Puzzle With Natural-Inspired Colours

This Kangaroo puzzle consists of 200 pieces. Unlike traditional jigsaw puzzles with clear borders, this one lacks the traditional straight frame, but the thick black outlines on some pieces provide a helpful hint for the kangaroo’s shape. The real challenge lies in sorting the pieces by the subtle and distinct patterns. The color palette is a rich tones of yellow, brown, and nature-inspired greens. Each piece features unique patterns drawn from nature and leaf prints —swirls, curvy lines, circular shapes, and symmetrical designs—that guide the placement of pieces within the kangaroo’s divided sections. I love how the puzzle beautifully integrates intricate, nature-inspired motifs, adding depth and complexity to the overall design.

(2) Irregular & Unique Shapes - Spot The Wildlife Surprises!

Each puzzle pieces is uniquely crafted, with twisting, irregular shapes that deviate from the standard tabs and blanks of mass-produced puzzles. The edges, random and uneven, add a layer of challenge, requiring us to rely on our spatial skills and intuition to piece everything together. As we progressed, we were treated to a series of delightful wildlife surprises (and not just Australian creatures!). You’ll spot, amongst others, a giraffe, spider, emu, lion, snail, koala, lizard, alligator, an Australian map, and even a tiny kangaroo—all cleverly integrated into the design. As we assembled the puzzle, we marveled at the hidden shapes and the thoughtfulness behind each piece, making the experience as much about discovery as it was about completion.

(3) High-Quality, Laser-Cut Wooden Pieces

This puzzle is crafted from high-quality, laser-cut wooden pieces. The vibrant colors and striking artwork make it visually captivating, while the pieces fit together smoothly, sliding effortlessly into place. Packaged in a compact wooden box, it offers both convenience and durability. We’s loving this!

Today, let’s talk about Kookaburra - a charming masterpiece that’s as fun to assemble as it is to admire!

Why I love ❤️ this puzzle: 

(1) 219 Wooden Jigsaw Pieces

This Kookaburra puzzle is made up of 219 pieces, each contributing to the final image of this iconic Aussie bird. What makes it stand out is the lack of a traditional frame, which adds extra challenge as you can’t rely on edge pieces to start. Without the usual edge pieces to guide us, we would need to rely on our limited spatial skills and intuition right from the start - which was a truly humbling experience! 

(2) Uniquely Shaped, Non-Traditional Pieces With Wildlife Surprises

The real magic lies in the puzzle pieces themselves. Each one is uniquely shaped, with twisting forms that break away from the standard tabs and blanks of mass-market puzzles. As we worked through the puzzle, we encountered series of delightful Australian wildlife surprises. Look closely and you’ll spot a spider, emu, wild dog, lizard, galah, an outline of the Australian map, and MORE - all cleverly integrated into the design. We had a blast assembling the puzzle whilst discovering the hidden shapes and marvelling at the thoughtfulness behind each piece. 

(3) Artistic & Intricate Motifs

The bird is made-up of and divided into multiple artistically-done sections, each featuring intricate motifs inspired by Australian Indigenous culture. Wavy lines and circular patterns, reminiscent of traditional Aboriginal art, are woven throughout the design, adding a rich layer of cultural inspiration to the puzzle.

The puzzle is made from high-quality, laser-cut wooden pieces that are chunky and precisely crafted. The vibrant colors and bright artwork make it visually striking.
